Jay, ME- The Androscoggin Land Trust (ALT), a regional organization serving over 100,000 people in the Androscoggin River watershed, is announcing an event to showcase its largest-ever proposed land conservation project that links with area recreational trails spanning from the town of Canton to the towns of Jay and Livermore Falls. The event is part of a broader effort on Saturday June 1st known as National Trails Day.

In partnership with the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, multiple local ATV clubs and the owners of the Otis Falls Mill, the public is invited to bring their ATVs and ride from the town of Canton, following along the hilly terrain of the Androscoggin River corridor and existing ATV trails, into Jay where the ride will connect with the Whistle Stop Trail and the more than one mile extension of that trail into the Otis Falls Mill which is open for its first National Trails Day after years of work by the State and local clubs. For those wishing to walk or ride bikes, you can meet at 10 AM at the Otis Falls Mill and walk the trail from there.

Previously, the trail ended at the French Falls Recreation Area but with the investment of the State of Maine and leadership of local ATV clubs, it now continues an additional 1.3 miles into the Chisholm Village district of the Town of Jay. Mill St. Café is offering an outdoor lunch including burgers, hot dogs and all the fixings for just $10 for participants in the National Trails Day event. The lunch begins at noon and will be outside under tents. We ask that those wishing to have lunch RSVP to 207-782-2302 or to ensure an accurate head count for Mill St. Café.

The event highlights a larger community initiative led by ALT, through its Chisholm Trails program, to conserve nearly 1,300 acres of land in a partnership with Verso Paper. The Androscoggin Greenway project, as highlight in the attached map, will protect working forests and ensuring recreational access is available for the region and create a unique trail riding experience as you transition from rolling undeveloped terrain with river views into the historic mill district of Jay and Livermore Falls. To date, ALT has raised over $400,000 towards the project and
